Tropic of Cancer
Henry Miller
First published in Paris in 1934, this semi-autobiographical novel chronicles Miller's impoverished, bohemian life among expatriates in France. Its graphic depictions of sex and its celebration of transgression kept it banned in the United States until Grove Press won a landmark Supreme Court obscenity case in 1964.
