In a bleak near-future Britain, teenage gang leader Alex and his droogs commit acts of extreme violence before Alex is arrested and subjected to an experimental aversion therapy. Burgess's novel, written in invented slang called Nadsat, was banned in some US high schools and famously controversialized by Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation.
